Tamil Murasu is a Tamil-language newspaper based in Singapore. It was launched in 1935 and is the only Tamil-language newspaper in Singapore. It is one of sixteen newspapers published there.
It was launched in 1935 by Thamizhavel G. Sarangapani. It was published weekly, then daily from 1937 onward. Sarangapani advocated for positions similar to Periyar, such as decrying discrimination and advocating for labor rights. He also wanted to reduce the dominance of English-educated upper-class Brahmins in Singaporean Tamil journalism.
It is a daily paper in Singapore that has been around since 1952. It was taken over by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) in 1991 and became a wholly-owned subsidiary of SPH in 2004. Since then, it has launched various supplements and websites, including the English tabloid tabla! and the pre-schooler supplement Balar Murasu. In 2020, Tamil Murasu celebrated its 85th anniversary and in 2021 it started distributing copies of its Manav
