20 minutes is a free, daily newspaper published in France, Spain, and Switzerland. It is published by Schibsted and Ouest-France Group [fr] in France, Schibsted and Zeta in Spain, and Tamedia in Switzerland. The newspaper is aimed at commuters.
In 2017, the website received 16 million unique users per month. In Greater Paris, it had a circulation of 805,000 with a readership of 2,339,000. Its readers are mostly young urban citizens aged 15-40 who don’t consume traditional newspapers as much.
It was launched in Paris in 2002 and spread to 11 other cities across France. It includes national pages as well as sections specific to each region. The cities include Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Nice, Nantes, Strasbourg, Montpellier, Bordeaux, Lille, Rennes and Grenoble.
It is a free French newspaper that has led the market since its launch. TF1 and Bolloré, owners of The Newspaper’s competitors, announced their willingness to buy 20 minutes and merge their activities in March 2014. The name comes from the amount of time it should take one to read this daily newspaper.
